Fighting Hunger and Food Insecurity

When most people think about the ways that we fight hunger in our communities, one thing that comes to mind is the local food pantry – and with good reasons.  Our mobile food pantry brings free food and groceries to the community which in turn helps remove barriers that prevent food-insecure individuals and families from accessing traditional food pantry resources in underserved areas.

Food insecurity is an official term from the USDA. It’s when people do not have enough food to eat and know where their next meal will come from. It’s a big problem in the United States, where over 44 million people, including 13 million children, experience food insecurity annually. However, many more people, including millions who do not meet the definition of food insecure—these are the ones that can turn to the charitable food sector support such as Lydia’s Nest.

Our clients can pick up pre-packed grocery boxes and bags as well as come in and shop on occasion.  Items that are usually available are meat, fruits and vegetables, dairy, bread, non-perishable items, and ingredients for easy meals.
